The story behind Tulip Artist is more impressive than a glace on this Artist does suggests. When the Captein brothers, Adriaan and Jan, crossed the tulips Generaal de Wet and Palestrina in 1947, Tulip Artist was born. A salmon orange tulip with a unique green flame was something what was never seen before. Cross breeding tulips was still developing these days and it seemed the characteristics of Tulip Artist didn't match any tulip group in existence. After having bred more varieties out of Tulip Artist a new tulip group was formed in 1987: viridiflora tulips. Probably every low viridiflora tulip is related to Tulip Artist. This beauty is a low growing but strong tulip which shows quite artistic flower shapes. |
